Ruud van Nistelrooy Set To Take Over As Leicester City Manager
Ruud van Nistelrooy is set to be appointed as Leicester City’s new manager following the dismissal of Steve Cooper after just 157 days in charge.
The 48-year-old Dutchman will take over the reins from Cooper, who was sacked after Leicester’s 2-1 defeat to Chelsea in the Premier League on Saturday.

Van Nistelrooy’s appointment comes shortly after he left his role as interim head coach at Manchester United, following Erik ten Hag’s departure. During his brief tenure, he led United to three wins and one draw but departed when he was informed he wouldn’t be included in the coaching setup under new manager Ruben Amorim.
Van Nistelrooy had two wins against Leicester during his time at United, including a 5-2 victory in the Carabao Cup and a 3-0 win in the Premier League earlier this month.
Now, he will inherit a Leicester side currently sitting 16th in the Premier League, just one point above the relegation zone. Cooper, who was appointed this summer after Enzo Maresca’s departure, won only two Premier League matches during his time at the helm.
Van Nistelrooy’s only previous full-time managerial experience came at PSV Eindhoven during the 2022-23 season, where he won the Dutch Cup before joining United as an assistant coach.

Leicester’s next match is away at Brentford on Saturday, though it is unlikely that Van Nistelrooy will take charge in time for that game. Ben Dawson, who was part of Cooper’s backroom staff, is expected to oversee the match as caretaker manager.
Van Nistelrooy will need to gain the full support of Leicester’s dressing room, which struggled with unity under Cooper’s management, despite support from senior players like Jamie Vardy.
