Yoruba Obas Forum Visits Ayangburen Palace in Lagos
Ekohotblog reports that the Yoruba Obas Forum, a group of traditional rulers from Yoruba-speaking states, visited the Ayangburen of Ikorodu, Oba Kabir Adewale Shotobi, at his palace in Ikorodu.
The visit was part of their tour of Lagos State to strengthen their until, love and stand in one brotherhood.
The forum, founded five years ago, brings together Yoruba kings to work for unity, peace, and the promotion of Yoruba culture.
The president of the forum, Oba Dr. Samuel Adeoye, the Molokun of Atijere in Ondo State, spoke about their mission. He said,
“The Yoruba Obas Forum was created to unite all traditional rulers in Yoruba-speaking states.
Over the years, we have worked together to address challenges and promote the greatness of the Yoruba heritage.”
Oba Ganiyu Aderibigbe, the Alayandelu of Odo Ayandelu, explained that the forum is only for kings from Yoruba-speaking areas.
He added, “Our goal is to foster peace among all Yoruba kings and to protect and promote the traditions and language of the Yoruba people.”
During the visit, Oba Aderibigbe commended the Ayangburen of Ikorodu, Oba Kabir Adewale Shotobi, for his dedication to preserving Yoruba traditions.
He also praised other prominent Lagos State monarchs, including the Aladeshonyin of Odo-Noforija, Oba Babatunde Ogunlaja, and the Ranodu of Imota, Oba Ajibade Agoro.
“We are proud of these kings for their commitment to upholding our customs and ensuring that Yoruba traditions are not lost,” he said.
Responding, Oba Kabir Adewale Shotobi expressed his appreciation for the visit. He said,
“I am delighted to host this respected group of Yoruba monarchs. Together, we must continue to preserve our culture and unite for the progress of Yoruba land.”
The Ayangburen of Ikorodu also led a special prayer for the Yoruba people, asking for peace, prosperity, and unity across all Yoruba-speaking states.
“May our land continue to grow in peace and progress, and may we as leaders be guided to make the right decisions for our people,” he prayed.
The visit ended with collective prayers for peace and progress across Yoruba-speaking regions.
The forum also pledged to continue reaching out to other areas, promoting collaboration among traditional rulers.
“We call on all Yoruba people to stand firm in preserving our rich culture and traditions,” Oba Dr. Samuel Adeoye said.
