FIFA Best Awards 2024: Rodri, Haaland, Vinícius Lead Nominees

Published

on

Manchester City’s Rodri and Erling Haaland are the Premier League’s sole representatives in the Best Male Player category at the 2024 FIFA Best Awards.

Their nominations come after City’s historic achievement of securing four consecutive English top-flight league titles.

Real Madrid and England midfielder Jude Bellingham also features among the 11 nominees, with the list heavily dominated by players from Spain-based clubs.

Lionel Messi, the 2023 FIFA Best winner, is the only nominee playing outside Europe.

Rodri, who recently claimed the Ballon d’Or, is a strong contender but faces stiff competition from Real Madrid’s Vinícius Jr., the Ballon d’Or runner-up. Bellingham, who finished third in the Ballon d’Or, aims to become the first English male player to win the FIFA award.

The winner will be determined by an equal weighting of votes from fans, media representatives, and captains and coaches of national teams across the men’s and women’s game.

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola, who secured the Coach of the Year award in 2023, is nominated again. Other nominees include Real Madrid’s Carlo Ancelotti, Bayer Leverkusen’s Xabi Alonso, Argentina’s Lionel Scaloni, and Spain’s Luis de la Fuente.

In the Goalkeeper of the Year category, Arsenal’s David Raya, Manchester City’s Ederson, and Aston Villa’s Emiliano Martínez represent the Premier League. They are joined by Real Madrid’s Andriy Lunin, PSG’s Gianluigi Donnarumma, AC Milan’s Mike Maignan, and Athletic Bilbao’s Unai Simón.
