Edo State Governor Swears in Three Previously Rejected Judges, Reaffirms Commitment to Justice

Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has sworn in three judges who were previously overlooked by the administration of his predecessor, Godwin Obaseki.

The swearing-in ceremony took place at the Festival Hall in the Government House, fulfilling a promise made by the governor in his inaugural address to address the issue.

The three judges, Ojo Maureen Osa, Okundamiya Godwin Jeff, and Edoghogho Eboigbe, were among eight individuals recommended for judicial appointments by the National Judicial Council (NJC) in June 2023.

While five of the recommended judges were appointed in May 2024, the remaining three had been excluded despite NJC clearance.

Governor Okpebholo described this exclusion as an injustice that needed to be rectified.

During the ceremony, the governor emphasized the importance of fairness and inclusion in governance.

He stated, “No one should be discriminated against, marginalized, or hated for personal reasons, or on account of not having a godfather.”
