Atiku, Obi Alliance Not Enough To Unseat Tinubu In 2027 – APC

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed any alliance between former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and ex-Anambra State Governor Peter Obi as insufficient to challenge President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.

APC National Publicity Director, Bala Ibrahim, in an interview with The PUNCH on Tuesday, derided the notion of an Atiku-Obi alliance as unrealistic, asserting that the APC’s dominance and Tinubu’s achievements would secure his victory.

He described the opposition leaders as “strange bedfellows” and claimed their previous failures underscore the futility of their collaboration.

Responding to remarks by Atiku’s spokesperson, Paul Ibe, who suggested that both leaders would unite to end APC’s “incompetent” administration, Ibrahim argued that the APC remains unshaken. “The opposition lacks the coherence and strategy to rival Tinubu, whose government is laying the goundwork for Nigeria’s progress,” he said.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that Ibe had earlier stated on Channels Television’s Politics Today that a coalition of Atiku and Obi could rally over 12 million votes and potentially reverse the economic challenges allegedly caused by the APC.

However, APC maintains that elections hinge on majority votes and strategic leadership, not speculative coalitions.

Meanwhile, opposition voices, including the Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) and the Social Democratic Party (SDP), have emphasized the need for credible elections rather than focusing solely on alliances. CUPP National Secretary, Peter Ahmeh, stressed that free and fair polling processes are the most critical factor in defeating the APC.

Similarly, SDP Chairman Shehu Gabam downplayed the effectiveness of political mergers, citing a lack of trust and cohesion among opposition parties. Instead, he advocated for assembling credible individuals with a strong track record to lead a “rescue movement.”

Despite the optimism of some opposition leaders, APC remains confident, with Ibrahim asserting that Tinubu’s leadership would deliver another decisive victory. “If this is their strategy, they might as well prepare for a repeat defeat in 2027,” he quipped.

As political camps strategize ahead of the elections, the APC appears unyielding in its confidence, while the opposition continues to explore pathways to challenge its dominance.
