Four Men to Face Trial Over Online Harassment of Brigitte Macron

Four men will appear in a Paris court next year for allegedly harassing French First Lady Brigitte Macron online, the public prosecutor said Thursday.

She has faced online disinformation about her gender and attacks over her 24-year age difference with President Emmanuel Macron.

Brigitte Macron filed a complaint in August, leading to an investigation into cyberharassment. The case will be heard in July next year, focusing on malicious comments about her gender, sexuality, and age difference with President Macron. A trial is set for October.

The relationship between President Macron, 46, and his wife, Brigitte, 71, has attracted media attention. One of the accused, Aurelien Poirson-Atlan, a publicist known as “Zoe Sagan,” is linked to conspiracy circles.

His lawyer, Juan Branco, criticized the charges, accusing the prosecutor of political bias.

Disinformation on social media claimed Brigitte Macron never existed and that her brother changed gender to assume her identity.

In September, a French court fined two women 8,000 euros for falsely claiming she was transgender.

The rumors also spread to the U.S., where Macron was attacked in a deleted YouTube video. This “secretly trans” narrative is a recurring form of online, sexist violence.
