Deputy Speaker Kalu Seeks Ndigbo Support for Constitution Review
Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu urged Ndigbo to support the 1999 Constitution review and collaborate on South-East development during a meeting with the South-East Legislators Forum.
Kalu emphasized the importance of unity, urging an end to sit-at-home orders, saying, “Unity is power; we must come together for growth.”
Kalu urged lawmakers to back the South East Development Commission (SEDC) and President Tinubu’s administration, emphasizing its commitment to Ndi Igbo and all Nigerians.
He commended their interest in constitutional amendments and federal legislative exposure, highlighting its benefits for robust and informed governance.
Kalu announced that the constitutional review zonal public hearing would begin next year and urged the South East legislative forum to develop a unified agenda.
He called for support for the SEDC to aid the region’s reconstruction post-civil war. Kalu also expressed optimism about ongoing efforts to secure IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu’s release.
The South East Legislators Forum, led by Hon. Kingsley Ikoro, praised Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu for his efforts in establishing the South East Development Commission (SEDC).
During a solidarity visit in Abuja, the forum acknowledged Kalu as the political leader of the South East region.
