Serie A’s bottom-placed club Monza parted ways with head coach Alessandro Nesta on Monday, following a 2-1 defeat to Juventus that left the team five points away from safety.

Nesta, a 2006 World Cup winner with Italy during his playing days, managed just 20 matches in all competitions after taking charge in July.

“The club thanks the coach for what he has done so far and wishes him the best for the future,” read a statement from Monza.

The 48-year-old had succeeded Raffaele Palladino, who departed Monza after two strong seasons to take over at Fiorentina.

Former Italy defender Salvatore Bocchetti has been named as Nesta’s replacement, signing a contract with Monza until 2027.

Bocchetti, 38, previously served as an assistant coach at Verona and worked with their reserves and youth squads, but this marks his first appointment as head coach at the top level.

Monza have struggled this season, managing just one win in 17 league matches and facing the looming threat of relegation to Serie B.
