Six Inmates Graduate from University, Five Earn Second Class Upper
EKO HOT BLOG reports that he achievement was announced on Monday in Umuahia by Sarafina Nwokonnta, Chief Operations Officer of Vision Africa Radio, during an event hosted by Bishop Sunday Onuoha, President of Vision Africa, for members of the Abia State chapter of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ).
Nwokonnta revealed that Vision Africa had funded several inmates to sit for the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) O-level exams within the correctional facility.
The organisation also supported the inmates’ education at NOUN, resulting in their graduation with excellent results.
“We have six graduates today, five of whom came out with Second Class Upper Division. They are thrilled about their success,” she said.
Nwokonnta emphasized that providing education to inmates is crucial for their rehabilitation, helping them become better citizens and preparing them for reintegration into society after serving their sentences.
Earlier, Bishop Sunday Onuoha, Methodist Bishop and President of Vision Africa, expressed concern about the growing number of deaths from stampedes linked to hunger and injustice in the country.
He stated the urgent need to address widespread poverty, warning that failure to tackle hunger and unemployment could lead to severe consequences for the nation.
