34 Arrested, Arms Recovered as NDLEA Clears Kano’s Drug Hotspots

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Kano State Command, has apprehended 34 individuals found in possession of varying quantities of illicit drugs during a recent operation aimed at curbing drug abuse and criminal activities in the state.

This development was disclosed in a statement issued by the command’s Public Relations Officer, Sadiq Muhammad-Maigatari, on Wednesday in Kano. Muhammad-Maigatari highlighted that the arrests were part of proactive measures initiated by the agency to ensure a secure and drug-free environment in Kano during the Christmas and New Year festivities.

According to the statement, the NDLEA carried out a coordinated raid on December 24, targeting several infamous drug dens across the state.

These operations led to the dislodgment of drug joints located in areas such as Fagge, Sani Abacha Stadium, Danagundi, and the notorious Filin Idi drug den, which has long been associated with drug trafficking and abuse.

The State Commander of the agency, Mr. Abubakar Idris-Ahmad, noted that the raids resulted in the recovery of significant quantities of illicit substances, including cannabis sativa, “suck and die,” and Exol-5, among others.

He further revealed that dangerous weapons, reportedly used by drug dealers to intimidate and attack law enforcement officers, were also seized during the operation.

“The operation reflects our unwavering commitment to dismantling drug networks and restricting the availability of harmful substances within the community, especially during the festive period when criminal activities tend to escalate,” Idris-Ahmad stated.

The commander emphasized that the agency remains dedicated to safeguarding the health and safety of Kano residents by aggressively tackling the drug menace.

He assured the public that thorough investigations are ongoing to determine the culpability of the arrested suspects. Upon completion of these investigations, those found guilty of drug-related offenses will be prosecuted in accordance with the law.

Idris-Ahmad called on the citizens of Kano to support the agency’s efforts by reporting suspicious drug-related activities in their communities.

He also urged parents and community leaders to educate young people about the dangers of drug abuse, which not only destroys lives but also undermines societal development.

The NDLEA’s actions underscore the agency’s resolve to create a drug-free society by implementing robust enforcement measures and fostering public awareness about the consequences of drug use.
