Speaking during his visit to Sokoto State amid growing controversy over the airstrike, General Musa stated that the military aimed its strike at known terrorists in the Lakurawa area and that anyone found in their company was considered an accomplice. He stressed that the airstrike was a legitimate operation against criminal elements.
The military’s position comes after a fighter jet bombed two communities in the Silame Local Government Area on Wednesday, resulting in the deaths of at least 10 civilians and several injuries.
While the Sokoto State government claimed that some of the victims were “innocent villagers,” the military maintained that the targets were criminals.

General Musa addressed the media during his visit to Giginya Cantonment, saying, “We are committed to ensuring the safety of Nigerians, but we will continue to go after criminals wherever they are. Those who support or harbour terrorists make themselves a target. Our message to the public is simple: do not allow these criminals to operate near you.”
The CDS added that while the operation was thoroughly planned and executed, an investigation would be conducted to address any potential mistakes. He emphasized that the terrorists often use the media to manipulate public opinion in their favour, warning the media to be cautious in their reporting.

“We are committed to protecting Nigeria’s territorial integrity,” General Musa asserted. “We will continue our efforts to fight criminal elements, but we will also strive to avoid civilian casualties. We urge civilians to avoid areas where terrorists are active, as staying in these areas complicates our operations.”
He concluded by urging Nigerians to stay clear of terrorist-held territories, saying, “If you are not part of them, leave the area. This will allow us to act decisively and protect you.”
