Augustine University, Ilara-Epe, Lagos State, hosted the Apostolic Nuncio to Nigeria, Archbishop Michael Francis Crotty, on Friday, January 3, 2025, in a historic visit.

Archbishop Crotty was joined by the Archbishop of the Metropolitan See of Lagos, Most Rev. (Dr.) Alfred Adewale Martins, along with other priests from the Catholic Archdiocese of Lagos.
They were warmly received by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Rev. Professor Anthony Akinwale, OP, and key university officials, including Rev. Dr. Emmanuel Ogundele, Dr. Rukevwe Olughor, and Mrs. Adesomo Babajide.
They went on tour of the campus thus stopping at the 1200-capacity Chapel of Mary Mother of the Church, Faculty Buildings, Library, and Administrative Building.

Archbishop Crotty was impressed by the institution’s modern facilities and serene environment.
Speaking during the visit, Archbishop Crotty expressed his admiration for the university’s achievements.
“Augustine University is a testament to what dedication and faith can achieve.
The integration of academic excellence and spiritual values here is truly commendable,” he said.
Archbishop Martins also praised the university’s progress. “This institution has grown significantly in both infrastructure and academic achievements.
It reflects the vision of the Catholic Church to promote education that develops both the mind and the spirit,” he noted.
Rev. Professor Anthony Akinwale, OP, appreciated the visit and the words of encouragement.
“The presence of the Apostolic Nuncio inspires us to continue striving for excellence and to remain a beacon of Catholic education in Nigeria,” he said.
Students and staff expressed their excitement at the rare opportunity to host such distinguished visitors.

The visit concluded with prayers and blessings from Archbishop Crotty, who encouraged the university to continue being a shining example of Catholic education, blending innovation and moral development.
