EKO HOT BLOG reports that Edna, the wife of Delta State’s first civilian governor, Olorogun Felix Ibru (1991–1992), was confirmed dead in a statement released by her son, Paul Ibru. The statement, made available to journalists in Warri, expressed the family’s sorrow and announced that burial arrangements would be shared later.
“Our amazing mother passed into glory on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, after a brief illness,” the statement read. “Until her death, she was full of life and we never expected her to leave us so soon. However, we cannot question the will of God in her precious life.”
The family described Edna as a compassionate and vibrant individual who was loved by many. “She was a lover of people, a mediator, a mother to many, outrageously humorous, deeply caring, and full of stories. We will miss her very dearly,” the statement concluded.
Edna Ibru was crowned Miss Nigeria in 1964 and became the first Nigerian and African to represent the country at the Miss Universe pageant. She was also the mother of two children with the late Olorogun Felix Ibru.

Her passing marks the end of an era for a woman remembered for her charm, influence, and contributions to Nigeria’s cultural and political history.
