The University of Lagos (UNILAG) has expressed its commitment to supporting the leadership of the new Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mojisola Lasbat Meranda, as she embarks on a journey to positively impact the state through transformative legislation.
Ekohotblog reports that this declaration of support came exactly one month after her predecessor, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, was impeached over alleged gross misconduct and abuse of office.

A high-powered delegation from UNILAG, comprising top professors and students, paid a courtesy visit to Speaker Meranda at the Lagos State House of Assembly on Tuesday. The delegation, led by the Dean of the School of Postgraduate Studies, Professor Abraham Osinubi, described her emergence as a “triumph for vision, integrity, and commitment to the greater good.”
“Your election is not just a personal victory; it is a triumph for vision, integrity, and commitment to the greater good,” Prof. Osinubi said. “Lagos State stands at the crossroads of boundless opportunities and challenges, and we are confident that under your dynamic stewardship, the Assembly will enact transformative policies that will elevate the state to even greater heights.”
He further emphasized that UNILAG was proud to have produced the first-ever female Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, noting that the Vice-Chancellor of the institution, Professor Folasade Ogunsola, was particularly excited about the historic moment.

“As a state renowned for its innovation, resilience, and leadership, Lagos needs leaders like you who possess the courage to envision a brighter future and the wisdom to bring that vision to life,” Osinubi added.
He assured the Speaker that the University of Lagos would continue to support visionary leadership by providing intellectual resources that would help address contemporary challenges in governance.
“We pray that divine wisdom, strength, and clarity of purpose will guide your every decision. May you lead with compassion and fairness, and may your tenure be marked by unity, progress, and prosperity for all citizens of Lagos State,” he said.
Responding, Speaker Mojisola Meranda expressed her appreciation for the visit, describing it as both an encouragement and a challenge for her and the House to meet the expectations of Lagosians through impactful legislation.
“This visit is a great encouragement for me. It challenges us as lawmakers to remain committed to enacting life-changing laws and motions that will improve the lives of our people,” she said.
