Eko Hot Blog reports that a tragic incident occurred in Bayelsa State as a 200-level Chemical Engineering student of the Federal University, Otuoke, drowned in Ekoli Creek, Yenagoa, after a swimming bet worth N300.

According to eyewitnesses, the student placed a wager with his coursemates, claiming he could swim across the river. However, while attempting the challenge on Sunday morning, he went underwater and did not resurface. His body remains missing.

A fellow student, who witnessed the incident, confirmed the bet, stating, “He challenged his friends and they all contributed N300 each. While swimming, he dipped and has not been seen since.”
Efforts to retrieve the student’s body have been unsuccessful, leaving students and residents in distress. Attempts to reach the university’s Public Relations Officer, Ms. Mercy Ekott, for comments were futile as she did not respond to calls.
