EKO HOT BLOG reports that addressing his guests, Tinubu urged leaders to remain committed to the welfare of the people, stressing that governance should not be about personal gain.
“I thank you all for responding to this invitation. You honoured it out of respect, not because you don’t have enough to eat or share,” he said in a statement released by his spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga.
Tinubu noted that his administration’s economic policies are already yielding results, with positive indicators in economic and human development. He credited these improvements to the collective efforts of the FEC and state leaders.
“I recall in our first FEC meeting, I said we were going to work hard to fetch water from a dry well. We are still working hard to ensure that there is water to drink and that we spend money, not the people,” Tinubu stated.
He urged leaders to govern with the future in mind, ensuring that their legacies are remembered positively.
“Look at yourselves as navigators that will bring the country to the promised land. Standing here as President is a great honour, and you can’t trade it. Continue doing what you are doing. And do more for the people,” he added.
Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) and Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, praised Tinubu for his bold economic decisions, saying they were necessary for long-term stability.
Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia, who led the Christian prayers at the event, highlighted the significance of Muslims and Christians fasting simultaneously, describing it as a symbol of national unity.
Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi, noted that the prices of goods and foodstuffs had been gradually decreasing, attributing the trend to Tinubu’s economic reforms. He commended the President for making tough but essential decisions to improve the nation’s economy.
The Iftar dinner was attended by Vice President Kashim Shettima, Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, and several ministers and cabinet members.
