EKO HOT BLOG reports that a petition dated March 27, 2025, and addressed to the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), outlined the reasons for the recall.
The petitioners, including Ugwuagbo Emmanuel Chizoba, Clinton Ogbonna, Sabinus Amah, and Stephen Okenwa, expressed frustration over Oke’s perceived failure to deliver on his mandate.
“This is his third term in the Federal House of Representatives, yet there’s no popular bill or motion to his name. No visible constituency projects, no contributions to legislative discussions. He does not represent us,” the petitioners stated.
Beyond accusing Oke of non-performance, they alleged he was imposed on the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) “against the wishes of the party” and was not duly elected. They claimed he lost the general election by a wide margin but was declared the winner by the Appeal Court on technicalities.
“We want to reclaim our stolen mandate,” the petitioners stated, emphasizing their resolve to take back representation.
Additionally, they accused Oke of neglecting his constituency, claiming he had no constituency office, had never held a town hall meeting, and remained disconnected from the people.
“We don’t see him at home, we don’t see him on TV, and we still don’t see him on the seat during NASS sessions,” they lamented.
The petitioners assured that the recall process was in line with constitutional requirements, noting that at least 50% of registered voters had signed the petition.
This development comes amid the ongoing recall process for Kogi Central Senatorial representative, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, further highlighting growing discontent among Nigerian voters with their lawmakers.
