The charge stated that on November 12, 2024, Elijah fraudulently claimed to be Pearl Xavier on Google, intending to gain an advantage for himself, thereby violating Section 22 of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, etc.) Act, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2015.
Elijah pleaded guilty to the charge, after which EFCC counsel Abdulhamid L. Tukur presented the case facts with the assistance of operative Adams Adze.

Adze informed the court that Elijah had been apprehended in November 2024 based on actionable intelligence linking him to a cybercrime ring operating in the Lekki area of Lagos.
Upon Elijah’s arrest, the EFCC recovered an iPhone 12 Pro Max and an HP laptop, which provided digital evidence supporting his involvement in online scams.
Operative Adams Adze testified that Elijah had confessed to conducting a dating scam from which he gained $200.
Additionally, Elijah made a restitution payment of N200,000 via a bank draft.
The prosecution obtained the court’s approval to present the defendant’s statements, mobile phone, laptop, and forensic reports as evidence.
Pleading for leniency, Elijah informed the court of his recent business venture and his enrollment in a polytechnic to further his education.
After considering the case, Justice Bogoro sentenced Elijah to one year in prison with an option of a N200,000 fine.
Furthermore, the court ordered the forfeiture of the mobile phone, laptop, and bank draft to the Federal Government of Nigeria.
