EKO HOT BLOG reports that Dantata, a respected philanthropist and uncle to Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, passed away at the age of 94 in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, in the early hours of Saturday. His remains were immediately flown to Saudi Arabia for burial.
Although Dantata’s final resting place was in the holy city of Madina, a funeral prayer in absentia, known as Salatul Ga’ib, was conducted for him on Saturday at the Umar Bin Khattab Mosque in Kano. The special prayer was led by Sheikh Ibrahim Khalil, Chairman of the Kano State Council of Ulamas, who explained that Salatul Ga’ib is offered for Muslims who pass away outside their homeland or in locations where funeral rites cannot be performed.
The prayer attracted thousands of sympathisers and notable dignitaries, including the Commandant General of the Kano Hisbah Board, Sheikh Ibrahim Daurawa.
Many Nigerians had expected Dantata’s funeral rites to take place in his native Kano. However, family sources disclosed that the late businessman had long expressed his desire to be buried near his wife’s grave in Madina. His wife, Rabi Dantata, passed away in 2023.
“His burial in Madina was in line with his longstanding wish to be interred near his wife,” a family member confirmed to journalists.

According to reports by Leadership, all arrangements for his burial had been made before his death, ensuring the swift transfer of his body to Saudi Arabia shortly after his passing.
