The incident involved a Mazda bus with registration number KJA 811 YF and a DAF truck with plate number T1 4636 LA.
According to Bakare Oki, all eight victims including the driver and conductor of the bus died on the spot.
Eight other passengers sustained varying injuries and were promptly taken to Badagry General Hospital by officers of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) for urgent treatment.
Emergency response teams from LASTMA, FRSC, the Nigeria Police (Morogbo Division), and troops from the 244 Battalion, Ibereko Barracks, worked together to clear the scene and rescue the injured.
Initial investigations indicate that the bus was speeding when the driver lost control and swerved into the path of the oncoming truck. The collision was described as devastating, leaving little chance of survival for many onboard.
Bakare Oki, who visited the scene, expressed profound sorrow over the loss and extended condolences to the families of the victims.

“This painful event is a stark reminder of how precious and fragile life is. No one should begin a journey and not return. We mourn with the families and pray for strength in this time of grief,” he said.
He also extended his best wishes for the complete recovery of the injured passengers and issued a strong warning to all commercial and articulated vehicle drivers to strictly follow safety regulations.
He emphasized that excessive speeding and reckless driving remain major threats to lives on Nigerian roads.
