- Omawumi debunks Timaya’s story about Burna Boy ejecting her and Waje from studio
- Says the incident never happened and condemns being dragged into the narrative
- Insists she has always avoided drama and maintained industry respect
Popular Nigerian singer, Omawumi, has shut down viral claims by colleague, Timaya, suggesting that Grammy-winner Burna Boy once asked her and fellow vocalist Waje to leave a studio session.
The claim, which recently resurfaced from a 2023 interview, alleged that Burna Boy predicted his rise to fame and insisted the two women leave after supposedly doubting him.

However, in a new interview with Naija FM, Lagos, Omawumi categorically denied the story, describing it as completely false and upsetting.
“That thing no happen,” she stated. “What hurt me the most is that Timaya involved me in a condescending way to praise Burna Boy. Why bring my name into it?”
The veteran singer expressed disappointment at being dragged into what she described as a fabricated story, adding that even Burna Boy has never made such claims.
She emphasised that the only time she had been in the same space with the trio Burna Boy, Waje and Timaya was in 2010, when Waje was recording a song with Burna.

“I left because it was getting late,” she said. “That incident never happened.”
Omawumi stressed that she has spent nearly two decades building a reputable music career by avoiding drama and always showing respect to colleagues.
“I’ve never talked down on anyone in the industry,” she added, making it clear she had no interest in being associated with unverified stories.
The singer concluded by reaffirming that the entire narrative was false and should not have included her name.
