EKO HOT BLOG reports that speaking on Sunrise Daily, a Channels Television programme, ANED CEO Sunday Oduntan explained that the maintenance by the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), which began Monday, July 28, is critical to enhancing long-term power reliability in Lagos. He noted that the engineering work, though disruptive, is being carried out in phases to limit impact.
“We need to believe in our institutions,” Oduntan said. “This project has been well-planned over time. If rushed, it could hurt the economy. The engineers know what they’re doing.”
TCN had earlier warned that the scheduled work would lead to intermittent outages between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. daily. The 330kV transmission line undergoing upgrade is a major supply route for both residential and industrial areas across Lagos.
The Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) and Ikeja Electric had also issued public notices informing customers of the likely disruptions, while assuring that power would be restored after the TCN’s daily work windows.

Despite the reassurances, many residents remain sceptical about the daily 5 p.m. restoration promise, citing past failures in similar situations. However, stakeholders have urged public support, stressing that the upgrade will significantly improve power supply across the state once completed.
The ongoing maintenance is viewed as crucial in stabilising power delivery in Nigeria’s commercial capital.
