The Chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), Hon. Dr. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has emphasized the need to channel diaspora remittances into housing and real estate investments to boost the national economy.
According to Eko Hot Blog, she made this appeal during the fourth day of the African International Housing Show (AIHS) 2025, held at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel in Abuja on Friday.

In her goodwill message, Dabiri-Erewa praised the event organizers, stakeholders, and experts in the construction industry for their efforts toward improving access to affordable housing in Nigeria.
She stressed the importance of leveraging diaspora remittances for significant investment in the real estate sector, calling on individuals, corporate entities, and authorities to take advantage of the opportunity.

The NIDCOM Chief Executive Officer also highlighted the need to simplify the property acquisition process and pointed to the potential of the real estate sector to drive economic growth.
According to her, diaspora remittances in 2024 reached a staggering $18 billion, underscoring the opportunity for sustainable investment and reinvestment in real estate.
Other speakers, including the President of the Nigerian Institute of Architects, Mrs. Mobolaji Adeniyi, echoed similar sentiments. They advocated for continued investment in housing and real estate as a means of national transformation.
The stakeholders pledged to maintain strong partnerships with the African International Housing Show, now in its 19th edition, to help reshape Nigeria’s housing and habitat sector.
