Epe Local Government, under the leadership of Hon. (Princess) Surah Olayemi Animashaun, in partnership with the Shoulders of Support Charitable Organization, has announced a major empowerment programme aimed at transforming the lives of 200 widows in the community.

The initiative will take place on Thursday, August 14, 2025, at the Epe Local Government Secretariat, starting at 10:00 AM.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the initiative is designed to go beyond resource distribution by providing sustainable support that promotes dignity, independence, and long-term economic growth for widows.
“Our widows are pillars of strength in our community,” Hon. Animashaun said. “Today, we stand beside them, not in sympathy, but in solidarity, equipping them with the tools to thrive and flourish.”
According to the Shoulders of Support Charitable Organization, the empowerment scheme will include small business grants, skill acquisition opportunities, and mentorship sessions for beneficiaries.
“We believe in creating pathways for self-reliance, so these women can build sustainable livelihoods and inspire others in similar situations,” a representative of the NGO noted.
The event is expected to foster unity, inspire hope, and further demonstrate the council’s commitment to inclusive governance and social welfare. Entertainment, motivational talks, and networking opportunities will also be part of the day’s activities.
