The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has revealed that more than 69,000 Nigerians successfully completed their online pre-registration within the first seven hours of the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise.
Eko Hot Blog cites the National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Sam Olumekun, saying that the online platform became active at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, August 18, 2025 and by 3:30 p.m. the same day, a total of 69,376 eligible Nigerians had submitted their pre-registration forms.

Breaking down the figures, Olumekun disclosed that 33,803 registrants (48.7%) were male, while 35,573 (51.3%) were female. He also noted that young Nigerians between the ages of 18 and 34 accounted for the majority, with 48,033 entries, making up 69.2% of the total registrations.

“The portal was launched at 8:30 in the morning, and by mid-afternoon, we had already recorded over 69,000 submissions. This shows a strong interest from citizens, especially young people, in participating in the electoral process,” he stated.
INEC also announced that the physical, in-person registration phase will begin on Monday, August 25, 2025. This will take place at the commission’s 811 state and local government area offices across the country, operating from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on weekdays.
Olumekun explained that both online and in-person registration will run concurrently throughout the CVR period. He further emphasized that only citizens who are at least 18 years old and have not previously registered are eligible to register.
He added, “We urge the public to avoid double or multiple registrations, as this is against the law. However, eligible voters can still process transfers between states or within the FCT, as well as replace lost or damaged Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) during this exercise.”
He also mentioned that starting next week, INEC will provide weekly updates on the CVR, including a breakdown by state, gender, age, occupation, and persons with disabilities.
