Eko Hot Blog reports that the governor, who was present at the commissioning of the facility, also commended the Minister of State for Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, for his remarkable transformation of the nation’s education sector since his appointment.
“Today is not just about unveiling an auditorium; it is about celebrating vision, consistency, and service.
What Honorable Tunji Bello has done is beyond a building; this is a beacon of knowledge, a place for academic discourse, learning, understanding, and a legacy that will enrich the LASU environment and encourage our students to become better citizens,” Sanwo-Olu said.
The governor recalled that Bello first made the commitment to give back to education during his 50th birthday celebration at Palace Hotel and has remained consistent with his promises.
“I thought I had missed his 60th birthday, but I am glad I didn’t because he used his 60th to reinforce his humanity and raise this project that we are all here to commission and hand over to LASU today,” he added.
Sanwo-Olu prayed for long life for both Hon. Bello and veteran journalist and statesman, Aremo Olusegun Osoba, describing them as pillars of integrity and service.
“On his 70th, God will bless him to do something greater than this, maybe even a university that will carry his name, the Olatunji Bello University,” the governor prayed.
The governor further expressed gratitude to the monarchs, dignitaries, and stakeholders present for their support and partnership in the growth of education in Lagos State.
He particularly commended Dr. Alausa for his contribution to LASU’s development. “I want to appreciate the Honorable Minister for the donation he made to improve the electricity system of this campus.
His efforts in transforming education are visible, and we are grateful,” he said.
Sanwo-Olu assured LASU of continuous government support, noting that the state will soon commission and hand over the biggest university library in Nigeria to the institution.
He encouraged other well-meaning individuals to emulate Bello’s example. “As a government, we will continue to do our part, but we also call on private citizens to join hands with us by giving back to the community. Education is a collective responsibility,” he said.
