The police in Ibadan, Oyo State, on Thursday arraigned 55-year-old Emem Ogun at the Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly defrauding a land buyer of N35 million. Ogun, who resides in the Akala Express area of Ibadan, faces a two-count charge of fraud and stealing and pleaded not guilty.
Eko Hot Blog The prosecutor, Inspector Sikiru Opaleye, stated that on May 10, 2024, at Akala Express, Ibadan, Ogun, with the intent to defraud, obtained N35 million from Mr Adebayo Orefuwa.

Inspector Opaleye alleged that Ogun collected the money under the pretext of selling a plot of land at Jogor Center, Ibadan, but failed to deliver it, instead allegedly converting the N35 million for her personal use.
He noted that the offences violated Sections 390(9) and 419 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Oyo State, 2000.

Ogun’s defence counsel, Oladotun Ayanlade, requested that the court grant her bail on liberal terms.
The Chief Magistrate, Olabisi Ogunkanmi, granted bail in the sum of N10 million with two sureties of similar value. She specified that one surety must own property, while the other must be a blood relative.
The case was adjourned until October 8 for hearing
