Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has formally notified the Oyo State House of Assembly of his intention to begin a month-long vacation from August 29 to September 29. The governor’s letter, read during a special plenary session on Tuesday, is a requirement under Section 190(1) of the Nigerian Constitution.
In the letter, Governor Makinde officially handed over the responsibilities of his office to his deputy, Barrister Bayo Lawal, who will serve as the acting governor throughout the period, Eko Hot Blog reports.
“I hereby transmit that during the period indicated above, the deputy governor, Barrister Bayo Lawal, shall serve as acting governor,” the letter read. “I shall resume duty upon my return from vacation on Monday, Sept. 29.”

Speaker Adebo Ogundoyin, who presided over the session, acknowledged the letter and assured the legislature’s full support for Lawal during the governor’s absence.
He also affirmed that the House remains committed to upholding constitutional order and ensuring the continuity of governance in the state. With this official notification, Lawal will assume all responsibilities of the office from August 29 until Governor Makinde’s return.
