EKO HOT BLOG reports that According to the hearing, Dr. Mohammed Ramzan left the operating theatre while the patient was under general anaesthetic, after which he was discovered in a hospital office with the nurse. Witnesses reported that his absence delayed the procedure and put the patient at risk.
The Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service (MPTS) was informed that Dr. Ramzan’s actions were “wholly inappropriate” and a serious breach of professional conduct. The incident reportedly occurred in 2022 during an elective surgical procedure.
The tribunal heard that hospital staff were alarmed when the consultant could not be found in the theatre. He was later seen adjusting his clothing before re-entering the operating room. Prosecutors argued that his behaviour compromised patient safety and damaged the trust placed in medical professionals.
In his defense, Dr. Ramzan admitted to leaving the patient but denied that the encounter with the nurse was pre-planned. He described it as “a moment of poor judgment” and claimed the patient’s life was never in danger because the surgical team was capable of managing in his absence.

The case has raised serious concerns about discipline, professionalism, and patient safety in UK hospitals. The tribunal will determine whether Dr. Ramzan’s fitness to practise has been impaired by his actions. If found guilty of professional misconduct, he could face suspension or permanent removal from the medical register.
