The fourth student, this time the Senior Prefect, has fallen to his death from a mango tree while trying to get a fruit for a teacher in a school in Akure, the Ondo State capital.

Last Saturday, Temitayo Oluwole, the Senior Secondary school, SSS, 3 student of a government school, Ijo Mimo High School, fell from the mango tree and died, setting off anxiety as he was the fourth to die in such circumstance, trying to get mango fruit for a teacher.

One of the students said: “This is the fourth time a student would be falling from the mango tree whenever they are sent by their teachers to pluck mango for them.

“We all came for tutorial on Saturday. At about 1:30p.m., after the tutorial one of our teachers asked the SP to pluck mango for him. It was while he was on the tree trying to pluck the mango that he fell and was rushed to the hospital, where he died.

“This is the fourth time a student has died after falling from that particular tree in this school and our teachers don’t hesitate to send us to pluck mango for them, despite the danger and our cries that the tree is evil.

“But we can’t disobey them whenever they send us to climb the tree to pluck mango.”

The ensuing pandemonium sent the school principal and teachers have underground.

The late student’s father, Pastor Bode Adegoke, confirmed the incident, adding that his son fell from the mango tree after he was sent to pluck mango by one of his teacher at about 1:30pm after their tutorials.

According to him, his son fell and hit his head on the ground when the tree branch he stood on gave way.

“He was rushed to a private hospital called Abitoye Hospital, from where he was referred to the state hospital. He died in the Trauma Centre in Ondo town, at 6:52p.m.”

He said representatives of the school authorities had visited him yesterday, but that the school principal was nowhere to be found since the incident occurred on Saturday.

Pastor Adegoke noted that the matter had been reported at the Police Station.
