The Governor of Cross River State, Senator Bassey Otu, has commended the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, for her relentless dedication and commitment to diaspora engagement, describing her efforts as instrumental in earning Nigeria international respect.
Eko Hot Blog reports that Otu who was represented by his deputy, Rt. Hon. Peter Odey, gave the commendation when Dabiri-Erewa led a delegation on a courtesy visit to the state government ahead of the Fourth State Diaspora Focal Point Officers Summit taking place in Calabar.

The NiDCOM delegation included the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Diaspora, Civil Societies and NGOs, Sen. Anthony Siyako Yaro; the Chairman of the House Committee on Diaspora Affairs, Hon. Tochukwu Okere; and State Diaspora Focal Point Officers from the FCT, Akwa Ibom, Enugu, Kogi, and Cross River States.
Odey thanked Dabiri-Erewa for her efforts in supporting Nigerians abroad and promoting Nigeria’s global image.

“Cross River State is a partner of the diaspora community, and we will continue to harness the potential within the diaspora for development,” Odey said.
He also commended the Chairman of the Cross River State Diaspora Commission (CRIDCOM), Prince Otu Okor, for his dedication in ensuring the success of the summit.
In her remarks, Abike Dabiri-Erewa expressed gratitude to the Cross River State Government for hosting the summit and supporting NiDCOM’s activities. She also praised Governor Otu for his commitment to diaspora matters and the establishment of CRIDCOM.
“We appreciate the Cross River State Government for hosting us and for the tremendous support in putting this summit together within a short time,” Dabiri-Erewa said.
She further lauded the Senate and House Committees on Diaspora Affairs for their continuous collaboration and acknowledged CRIDCOM Chairman, Prince Okor, for building a strong institutional framework in just four months.
Deputy Chairman of the Senate Committee on Diaspora, Sen. Anthony Siyako Yaro, described the Nigerian diaspora as a “catalyst and pillar” for the country’s economic and image development, noting their contribution to Nigeria’s foreign reserves which grew from $20 billion to $40 billion through remittances.
Also speaking, Hon. Tochukwu Okere, Chairman of the House Committee on Diaspora Affairs, emphasized that the State Diaspora Focal Point Officers Summit remains a vital platform for connecting Nigerian states with their diaspora communities to drive sub-national growth.
