Afrobeats sensation Omah Lay has shared his excitement and humility after earning his first Grammy nomination, while stressing that awards are not his main motivation as an artist.
Eko Hot Blog gathered that the singer earned the nomination for his collaboration with Davido on the hit track “With You,” which made the shortlist for Best African Music Performance at the 68th Annual Grammy Awards.

In a post shared via his fan platform on Instagram, Omah Lay expressed gratitude for the recognition but admitted that trophies and accolades mean little to him personally.

He, however, expressed deep admiration for Davido, describing him as a loyal friend who stood by him during difficult times.
“I’m excited about this Grammy nomination haha but fr fr I don’t give a sh!t about awards. Yeah but I really want it for OBO! He is the realest friend I’ve had in a while; he stood by me during my hardest times,” he wrote.
Omah Lay’s statement has sparked admiration among fans, who praised his humility and sincerity despite the global acknowledgment.

Davido, who has received multiple Grammy nominations in past years, is once again a top contender in the category. He has been previously nominated four times, including twice since the Best African Music Performance category debuted in 2023.
The 2026 Grammy Awards will take place on February 1, 2026, at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, with several Nigerian stars, including Burna Boy, Ayra Starr, and Wizkid, also vying for top honours in various categories.
