- Joining the APC would better position him to serve his people
- Jibrin described the NNPP’s internal disputes as “irreconcilable,”
- persistent division had made it difficult to effectively carry out their legislative duties
Two lawmakers from Kano State have formally resigned from the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) and defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), citing deepening internal crises and disunity within their former party.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the defectors Sagir Koki, representing Kano Municipal Federal Constituency, and Abdulmumin Jibrin, representing Kiru/Bebeji Federal Constituency announced their decision through letters read by Speaker Abbas Tajudeen during Thursday’s plenary session at the House of Representatives.

The lawmakers said the persistent division within the NNPP at both national and state levels had made it difficult to effectively carry out their legislative duties.

Koki explained that after wide consultations with constituents and political associates, he concluded that joining the APC would better position him to serve his people and contribute to Nigeria’s development.
On his part, Jibrin described the NNPP’s internal disputes as “irreconcilable,” stressing that the party’s leadership had failed to provide the cohesion necessary for progress. He, however, expressed appreciation to the NNPP for the platform it provided during his time in the party.
The official reception of the lawmakers into the APC took place at the National Assembly chambers, with several high-ranking party leaders in attendance, including APC National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda; former APC National Chairman, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje; Deputy Senate President, Barau Jibrin; and former Kano State Deputy Governor, Dr. Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna.

In a related development, former chairman of Ungoggo Local Government Area, Hon. Sule Musa Kadawa, also defected from both the NNPP and PDP to the APC, leading over 2,000 supporters at a rally in Ungoggo.
Kadawa praised APC chieftain Alhaji Abdussalam Abdulkarim Zaura (A.A. Zaura) for his grassroots leadership, generosity, and empowerment initiatives, pledging to strengthen the party’s unity and influence ahead of upcoming elections.
