Update: Three Dead, Buildings Destroyed As Pipeline Explodes In Abule Egba
At least three persons have reported died while buildings have been destroyed in the pipeline fire that raged on Sunday in Ekoro/ Ile-Epo axis of Abule-Egba in Lagos.
Ekohotblog earlier reported that the explosion occurred from a ruptured pipeline belonging to Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), caused by activities of vandals around the area.
The Director-General of the Lagos State Emergency Agency( LASEMA), Dr Femi Osanyintolu had in a statement said: ” A raging fire from the explosion of a vandalised NNPC pipeline has caused panic among residents within Awori, U-turn and Pipeline communities in Abule Egba.
“LASEMA, LAGOS fire service are responding and on top of the situation.”
Ekohotblog which visited the area where the incident happened, observed that residents were panicky. People fled their houses and shops were closed while some used that as a medium to rob, although several fire fighting trucks were on ground. The police who ostensibly came to ensure order, were also seen.
