According to the UN chief, the prolonged standoff between the United States and Venezuela, which culminated in the reported military operation and capture of President Maduro, is deeply troubling and raises concerns about regional stability.
“The Secretary-General is deeply alarmed by the recent escalation in Venezuela, culminating with today’s United States military action in the country, which has potentially worrying implications for the region,” the statement read.
It added that regardless of the political situation in Venezuela, the developments marked a significant and troubling departure from established international norms.
“Independently of the situation in Venezuela, these developments constitute a dangerous precedent,” the UN spokesperson said.

The reaction followed an announcement by United States President Donald Trump on his Truth Social platform, where he disclosed that US forces had carried out a military operation leading to the capture of Maduro.
The UN has continued to urge restraint and respect for international law amid growing global reactions to the unfolding situation.
