Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has called on creatives and storytellers to sustain innovation and resist complacency as the state intensifies efforts to grow its creative economy.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the governor made the call on Tuesday at the Lens for Good 2026 Storytellers’ Conference, themed “Stories That Move Us”, held at the Wole Soyinka Centre, Iganmu, Lagos.

Describing Lagos as a city driven by energy, resilience, and creativity, Sanwo-Olu highlighted the state’s vast untapped talent and stressed that perseverance and the ability to push through challenges remain central to the Lagos identity. He emphasized that continuous innovation is key in a competitive environment, warning that failure to create or improve opens the door for others to lead.
Sanwo-Olu urged creatives to consistently challenge themselves, pursue originality, and apply lessons from past experiences to stay relevant. He also acknowledged lingering concerns over trust between government and the creative community, describing trust-building as a gradual process dependent on consistent policy, engagement, and delivery.
The governor called for a partnership between government and creatives, noting that government does not have all the answers and must remain open to ideas and guidance from industry stakeholders.
He identified complacency as a major threat to the industry’s growth, urging practitioners to set higher goals, pursue self-improvement, and embrace new opportunities.

Looking ahead, Sanwo-Olu stated that Lagos aims to become a leading global city with a high quality of life and a vibrant creative sector capable of competing internationally. He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to inclusivity, sustained engagement, and continuous improvement, ensuring creativity thrives and opportunities remain accessible to all residents.
