NFF Gives Super Eagles’ Manager Condition If He Wants To Keep His Job

The Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) is yet to agree on how much Super Eagles manager Gernot Rohr should earn under the terms of his proposed new contract NFF president Amaju Pinnick has said.

Rohr currently earns a tax-free monthly salary of $55,000 on his current contract which runs out in June.

The NFF has already made it clear that an extension for the Franco-German will be contingent on him agreeing to a number of conditions such as living in Nigeria and paying taxes on his salary.

Taxing Rohr’s salary effectively means a pay cut for the former Bordeaux manager except the proposed new contract compensates for the shortfall by significantly improving his monthly pay.

But Pinnick told The Punch that no discussions have been held yet on what the final financial details of the proposed extension for Rohr will look like.

“No discussion on that yet,” Pinnick replied when asked if a pay cut was being considered for Rohr.

“Why I have the loyalty of the NFF committees is that they take decisions that are strategic and they bring it to me. This is a very sensitive question,” Pinnick added.

The NFF president further revealed that the federation’s 1st vice-president Seyi Akinwunmi will take charge of contract negotiations with Gernot Rohr at the proposed February meeting in London.

Pinnick said an extension will be sealed if Rohr assents to all the conditions put forward by the NFF.

“In the next few weeks, the first Vice President (Seyi Akinwunmi) who is on the legal team, will lead a committee with chairmen of Technical, Establishment, Marketing, Secretary-General and Head of Legal to sit down with him (Rohr) physically and look at the nitty-gritty and tell him, ‘Look at our situation. Can you do this and that?’ If he says yes, why not? Whether we like it or not, he has done quite a lot,” Pinnick said.
