EKO HOT BLOG reports that United States lawmakers recently introduced a bill titled the Nigeria Religious Freedom and Accountability Act of 2026, aimed at strengthening accountability for alleged human rights abuses in Nigeria. The proposed legislation includes provisions for possible sanctions against Fulani militias and former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso.
Reacting to the development, Aliu described the move as politically motivated and malicious. She insisted that Kwankwaso is a nationalist with a record that does not support the allegations contained in the proposed legislation.
She spoke on Thursday during an appearance on Arise Television’s Prime Time programme, where she dismissed claims linking Kwankwaso to religious bigotry or terrorism.
“There is no indication that Kwankwaso has anything to do with religious bigotry or terrorism.
“So that is how I want to present it to you that this whole thing is seriously malicious and politically motivated.
“Kwankwaso is a nationalist and a person of good character; his running mate and some of his employees are Christians.

“Then let me also say, if you look at that bill, it’s talking about the fact that Kwankwaso is the first governor that has something to do with Sharia, which is not correct.”
Aliu maintained that the claims contained in the bill misrepresent Kwankwaso’s record and political history.
