EKO HOT BLOG reports that in a statement issued on Sunday, the Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force, North East, Operation Hadin Kai, Lt. Col. Sanni Uba, said the missions reflected sustained military pressure on terrorist strongholds in the region.
“Troops of Operation HADIN KAI have once again demonstrated clear combat superiority by decisively thwarting coordinated terrorist attacks in Limankara and Kukawa,” Uba said.
According to the statement, 15 terrorists were neutralised in Gujba, Yobe State, during a precision operation conducted under Operation Desert Sanity V.
Uba said troops of Sector 2, acting on credible intelligence supported by surveillance and reconnaissance platforms, stormed Lamusheri Village in the early hours of February 22. He described the location as a key logistics hub for insurgents.
“Despite coming under fire on approach, troops, in synergy with members of the Civilian Joint Task Force, outflanked the terrorists and cut off their withdrawal routes. During the ensuing firefight, 15 terrorists were neutralised while scores fled with gunshot wounds,” he stated.
He also disclosed that terrorists who attempted to infiltrate the Forward Operating Base in Limankara were repelled without casualties on the side of the troops.
“There were no casualties or equipment losses on the side of own troops, while human intelligence confirmed several casualties on the part of the terrorists. The situation remains firmly under control,” Uba added.
In Kukawa, Borno State, insurgents launched a coordinated multi pronged attack but were overpowered by troops with support from air components.
“Overpowered by superior fire and coordinated resistance from ground troops and air support, the terrorists withdrew dragging away casualties,” the statement said.
During exploitation of the area, troops recovered 13 AK 47 rifles, 16 loaded magazines, three handheld radios and other items.
However, the military confirmed that one soldier was killed in action during the Kukawa operation, while some equipment was destroyed by rocket fire. The wounded personnel were evacuated and are reported to be in stable condition.
Uba said the synchronised offensives across multiple fronts showed the resolve of Operation Hadin Kai to degrade the combat capacity of terrorist groups operating in the North East.
“The sustained and synchronised operations across multiple fronts underscore OPHK’s resolve to degrade terrorists’ combat capacity,” he said.

He added that the military high command had commended the troops for their resilience and urged them to sustain the momentum in ongoing clearance operations.
