Small business owners across Nigeria can once again apply for financial support following the reopening of the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN) Conditional Grant Scheme.
The programme provides eligible nano and micro enterprises with a one off grant of ₦50,000, which beneficiaries are not required to repay.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that according to SMEDAN, the initiative is designed to provide financial support to small businesses, helping them strengthen daily operations, expand their activities and create employment opportunities.
Grant Comes With Job Creation Requirement
Although the grant is non repayable, beneficiaries are expected to meet one key condition.
Businesses that receive the ₦50,000 grant must employ at least one additional worker as part of efforts to promote job creation and stimulate economic growth.
SMEDAN said the scheme is aimed at making funding more accessible to entrepreneurs who may struggle to obtain conventional business loans from financial institutions.
Unlike commercial loans, the grant attracts no interest and does not require repayment, provided beneficiaries comply with the programme’s conditions.
The agency added that the initiative is intended to encourage entrepreneurship, improve business productivity and support economic activities at the grassroots level.
SMEDAN also clarified that its Conditional Grant Scheme is different from the Presidential Conditional Grant Scheme, although both programmes provide ₦50,000 grants to eligible nano businesses.

The grant is targeted at nano and micro enterprises operating across Nigeria’s local government areas.

Applicants will be required to provide the following details during registration:
- Full name
- Email address
- Phone number
- Business name
- Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) registration number, where applicable
- Business or industry type
- Number of years in operation
Applicants are advised to ensure all information provided is accurate and corresponds with their business records.

Successful applicants can use the ₦50,000 grant to support legitimate business expenses, including:
