The Futility Of Existence And The Pains Of A Postponed Apology By TJ Abass
Good Night Dr Folami Lukman Bukola
Try as he has, one phenomenon remains over which man is yet, and may never have complete dominion over – death.
Man’s is to wish it does not come early or better still catch him unprepared, but when it does knock, man’s is to drop his will before his creator’s.
And so it was recently when it located the doorsteps of a treasured brother, the affable, the jolly good fellow, the unassuming humility personified.
Bewilderment was an understatement, surrender an inevitability. After all, he was a good fella, who lived as had been divinely scripted and departed as equally ordained.
Dr Folami Lukman Bukola made a tremendous impact not only as a member of his local
chapter, Eko Club Rhode Island but Eko Club international. His contribution to the growth of ECI remains and is well documented and a reminder of his fruitful sojourn here.
Dear God, we are aware of your power. The heavily fortified gate cannot withstand the enormity of four strength. We still want to know why on this fateful day in Atlanta.
On a fateful day while on a business trip he retired to his Hotel apparently with a sense of fulfilment.
He probably would have strategised beaming with optimism and looking forward to the following day. He probably ordered for a meal, oblivious it was probably his last. He made a call not knowing he would not live to make another.
As is common in times like this, many have been forced to pose questions upon questions, but rhetorical queries as it were, and to God, why did you not alert him so he could be more prepared? Maybe there are few people he needed to ask for their forgiveness.
He retired for the day, went to sleep but never woke up.
What he worked for in his life stopped. The relationship with his family, extended friends and Eko club International family members all came to a halt.
You might have ended his life prematurely but we are glad we were able to cross path. He was a part of our life. The impact he had on those that met him was quite profound. May his soul rest in peace.
There are no regrets knowing Dr Folami. There are no regrets being part of Eko Club International family
However, there are regrets that we did not have enough time to cement our relationship Or even still, the opportunity to deeply express our love.
As a matter of fact, I personally missed out an opportunity to bond with him at the New Year Get Together organised by ECI Epe Branch.
He did call a day after, apologizing how he was stuck at Badagry, yet no insistence on my path to get him to make it the day following.
I have regrets that when he invited me for dinner a couple of days later, I was unable to make the dinner date because of a conflict in schedule.
I have regrets when he said he wanted to meet me to discuss some issues, I deferred the meeting to our monthly meeting in London slated for March not knowing he would not live to see the day.
All these would have given me an opportunity to get close to him and understand him better, exchange more banter and express my brotherly love to him. I would never have such opportunities again. These are my regrets. What about you?
Is there anyone out there that you think does not deserve your forgiveness?
Or someone you had not spoken to in years and vowed never to talk to him again?
You better act today because tomorrow might be too late. What a lesson to be learnt from his demise. What a lesson about life.
Life is vanity. Life is futile and unpredictable. Life is also a gift. Live it to the fullest. Don’t leave for tomorrow what you can do today. The hug you can give today can make an impact on one’s life. Why wait till tomorrow because tomorrow might be too late.
Pick up the phone today and tell someone, a member how much you love regardless of your unpleasant feeling towards him or her. Tomorrow might be too late. Rest in peace Lukman.
Rest in peace Dr Folami Lukman Bukola.
