LASG Urges Residents To Support Government’s Call On Security
The Honourable Commissioner for Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Relations, Engr. Tayo Bamgbose-Martins has called on Lagosians to lend their voices to the State Government’s call to stop the endangering of lives and property in the State.
Bamgbose-Martins, who made the call during his visit to the Lagos West Senatorial District IDP camp located at Igando, stated that Lagosians need to become more safety conscious by avoiding negligence that has led to many fire outbreaks in the recent past.
He maintained that in addition to the government’s commitment to providing succour to disaster victims, residents must take concerted steps to prevent the avoidable loss of lives that result from fire incidents.
Noting the importance of reporting issues that could lead to loss of lives and property, the Commissioner asked members of the public to p”lease, raise the alarm whenever you observe that your neighbour is engaging in any suspicious activity; endeavour to call security personnel on any of the free toll emergency numbers (767 or 121) for appropriate response to forestall any form of avoidable disaster”.

The Director-General, LASEMA, Dr. Femi Osanyintolu, explained that the present administration has committed resources to upgrade the IDP camp saying that basic amenities were provided to make the environment habitable for affected victims, including those living with disabilities.
Osanyintolu disclosed that the camp currently accommodates over 300 people, assuring that the government is committed to their safety and welfare always.
Briefing the visiting team on the activities in the camp, the Camp Commandant, Mr. Olatunbosun Olukolade disclosed that the IDPs are fed thrice daily and provided with free bus shuttle service to convey their children to and from their schools.
Responding on behalf of the IDPs, Prince John Taiwo-Okunbe, a community leader, commended the efforts of the State Government in taking care of the inmates after the disaster, describing his experience at the camp as satisfying.
