Osun state governor, Gboyega Oyetola has concluded plans to reverse controversial education policies such as the single school uniform and merger of basic and high schools initiated by his predecessor.

The governor disclosed this when he received the report of the committee set up to appraise the various issues.

According to Newsmen, Oyetola explained why the Osun state government is reviewing some of the policies Rauf Aregbesola introduced during his administration as the leader of Osun state.

Oyetola in a statement issued by his chief press secretary Ismail Omipidan, said his decision was in response to call for the review of some of the policies by school administrators, missionaries and school owners, and educationists.

The APC governor also noted that his administration is committed to repositioning Osun for the betterment of all the citizens.

He said: “As a government, our policies and programmes are driven by citizens’ needs. These needs which were further validated by the United Kingdom Department for International Development’s (DFID)- funded Citizens Needs Assessment exercise in Osun, were harvested during the Thank You Tour/Town Hall Meetings, where the people told us in plain language that they wanted some aspects of our educational policies removed, adjusted or improved upon.”

Part of the 26 issues to be reviewed by the current administration include reclassification of the public school system, abolition of single-sex schools across the state, and issuance of primary school leaving certificates.

Other policies to be reviewed by Oyetola’s tenure are change of schools’ identities, ownership of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), operations of Osun State University, and the introduction of tablet of knowledge, among others
