The Governor of Ekiti State, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, has ordered the closure of all markets that do not sell essential commodities such as food item, medical equipment and medicine from 5pm on Thursday, March 26.

He said the decision to close down all markets in the state was to reduce the spread of the coronavirus disease.

He also maintained that the market closure was necessary in order to ensure that residents practice social distancing.

Fayemi’s directive was contained in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Yinka Oyebode, in Ado-Ekiti on Wednesday.

The statement urged all drug stores not to sell other products asides medicines and food item seller must not sell any other item other than edibles.

Fayemi appealed to transport operators/companies and the leadership of National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW, Road Transport Employers’ Association, RTEAN, to stop the hike in transportation fare especially as students are returning home from various schools.

Pharmaceutical store owners were also advised not to inflate the price of essential drugs.
