Date Is Set For Fresh Nigeria Police Recruitment- Ogun CP

Lately, the Police Division in Agbowa, Ikosi Ejinrin LCDA of Epe Division, Lagos State, has been in the news but for the wrong reasons.

First, it was via a video recording of alleged extortion of a resident of the community by the Divisional Traffic Officer in the area.

And as it is with all negative incidents, the news went far and wide, drawing indignation for both the officer involved and the police in entirety.
All of these led to the arrest of the officer.

However, while that incident is still simmering, another scandal of similar magnitude involving the same division is brewing, and Eko Hot Blog is being involved in this following its role in the previous.

But much more a motivation to the aggrieved is the swift intervention of the authorities to the first case.

It is the story of an aggrieved Comrade Olugbemiga Ayodele, a retired Hydraulic Engineer and how he was coerced and swindled out of family land, an inheritance of treasure by an officer at Agbowa police division.

It has been for him, like a gangster operation, the type only seen in movies, with extortion, intimidation and abuse of power major highlights.

He takes over the narration from here:

“On that fateful day of February 28, 2020, I was en route Oando filling station in Agbowa to by fuel my car, (2007 Jeep Wagon) when I was accosted by men of Agbowa Police station for the usual vehicle inspection.

“Upon presentation of the vehicle particulars, it was discovered by the police officer that the roadworthiness had expired.

The police officer demanded an explanation for not renewing the roadworthiness and I said I was waiting to renew the entire vehicle particulars including the change of ownership in May because I recently just purchased the vehicle.

“Suddenly the charges changed from the expired roadworthiness to having a stolen vehicle because I told them I recently purchased the vehicle. The settlement demanded also changed from N10, 000.00 to N100, 000.00.

“All efforts to prove to the officer that the vehicle was not stolen including putting a call through to the original owner and the seller proved abortive. The officer despite a telephone conversation with the original owner refused to release the vehicle.

“The officer insisted I should come up with the N100, 000.00 or the vehicle would be impounded for a minimum period of 6 months until the true identity of the owner is known

“During one of my several trips to the police station in an attempt to secure the release of my car, Officer Adebayo Ojo, the man at the centre of the whole thing, said that I could also surrender a parcel of land in place of the fine.

“The land issue came about when I told the officer that because of the pressure that, if I had disposed of the family lands in my possession, I might have been able to raise such money. That was how the land became the item for negotiation.

“I was later coerced into giving up a parcel of land before my car was released from the station

“I have a recorded statement when the officer accompanied me along with the head of our family to visit the land and the receipt indicating it was a gift which was at the insistence of the officer. He also suggested I should add his last name, Ojo as the beneficiary of the bogus gift.

“My car was released to me the following day after DTO Ojo had successfully and dubiously dispossessed me of the family land”, Ayodele narrated.

When asked exactly what he now wanted, he said, he had contacted Eko Hot Blog to seek justice – the restoration of the land

It must be noted that as much as this incident is again linking Agbowa, there is no doubt that there are several police officers there, discharging their duties diligently, as proven with encounters with them, which never turned out bitter.

However, it is not a problem of Agbowa police division as it is, that of the entire police force, and this is where prompt intervention in the prevailing matter by the relevant office would be best advised.
