Alára Of Ilara Designate: A Royalty Rising To The Occasion In the bleakest Of Times
It’s often said that life is not about how much you’re able to acquire by manner of material things and the position you’re able to attain, neither will you be considered to have run a beautiful race on earth, if your wealth and position are not used to better mankind or to advance the cause of humanity.
The world no doubt is at its darkest in modern history, as a result of the Pandemic’s devastating ripple effects, leading to loss of jobs and depletion of savings as people dip into their reserve striving to survive and stay safe amid Lockdown.
While the rich and middle class have an economic buffer to fall back on to cushion the devastating effects of the lockdown, the downtrodden, needy and dregs of the society do not enjoy such luxury, hence they have to rely heavily on the generosity of benevolent citizens.
It is this act of uncommon kindness and service to humanity that is exemplified by Alára of Ilara, the king-designate, Prince Folarin Ogunsanwo on Saturday, with his gentle mien and affable disposition, took to the street in Epe to share relief items and Palliatives to residents of the area and also enlighten them on the dangers of COVID-19.
Prince Folarin donated food items and face masks to residents of Ilara, Ibonwon, Odosiwola, Odogbawojo, Odoayan, Igboye, the Christians, Muslim community, Widows and Youths.
The King-designate expressed satisfaction with the compliance of the people regarding the lockdown directive of the FG and Lagos State. He lauded governor Sanwo-Olu and the state for being proactive in tackling the COVID-19 scourge.
Prince Ogunsanwo stressed the need for community and traditional leaders to assist the government in providing palliatives and relief items for the people at a time like this, he tasked them to do their part in flattening the curve.
He also implored the people to maintain a high level of personal hygiene and adhere to other preventive measures put in place by the NCDC and state government to curtail the spread of the deadly virus.
“This is partly due to our people’s compliance to the directives of the Presidential Task Force on Covid-19 and indeed that of the Lagos State government.
“We appreciate them greatly for their obedience and patience at this difficult time.
“The pandemic, although is not anyone’s making, It is indeed ravaging the whole world at this time and we expect our people to continue to comply with these directives.
“With particular emphasis on maintaining a high level of personal hygiene. As part of our social responsibility to members of this community, I shall continue to encourage them to adhere to these proclamations, ” he said.
Ogunsanwo also said the reaching out to the less privileged during the month of Ramadan underscored the importance of the month as one with an unending show of compassion and kindness.
“The Ramadan has provided us with the opportunity to pray for our nation and indeed share goodies with people around us.
“It is in the light of these, that we have chosen this period to reach out to the less privileged among us. That is the essence of Ramadan, ” he said.
The chairman of Eredo LCDA, hon. Adeniyi Saliu also commended the exemplary leadership shown by the king-designate, Folarin Ogunsanwo. He said Epe had not recorded any case of COVID-19 because of the concerted and conscious efforts from stakeholders to prevent the spread of the disease.
“We can confidently say that this proactive measure along with the compliance of our people to the regulations of the PTF on Covid-19 is instrumental to the success registered so far.
“The Oba-Elect of Ilara has shown tremendous examples by leading from the traditional front.
“We shall continue to sustain this success and hope that the Virus will be defeated in no time, ” he said.
A member of the Lagos state house of Assembly, Hon. Ogunkelu Sylvester Oluwadahunsi, representing Epe Constituency II, expressed delight at the manner with which governor Sanwo-Olu and his team had proactively tackled pandemic.
“This pandemic is a serious issue but it is definitely a surmountable challenge.
“Our intention, as a matter of urgency is to try to flatten the curve. Kudos must be given to the government of Lagos State for their proactive approach to deal with this crisis, ” Ogunkelu said.
He expressed his gratitude to the king-designate for the intervention programme, saying it would go a long way in ameliorating the suffering of the people and mitigate the physical and economic impact of the pandemic on the people. He admonished the people to adhere to the guidelines and regulations put in place by the government to forestall the spread of the coronavirus pandemic.
“My profound appreciation also goes to the Oba-Elect, Prince Ogunsanwo, for his intervention program today.
“It is such a remarkable feat actually and it means the
traditional institutions are ready to get involved in the sustenance of remarkable achievements embarked on by this present administration, ” he said.
