JUST IN: Policeman Dies Of COVID-19 At FMC Abeokuta

The management of the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Idi-Aba, Abeokuta, Ogun State has confirmed the death of a policeman who tested positive for coronavirus.

All staff, who came in contact with the deceased, are currently on self-isolation, a statement issued on Sunday by the Head, Public Relations and Information of the hospital, Segun Orisajo, started.

According to him, the late patient was brought to the hospital about three days ago but died the same day.

Arisa said the body of the deceased was being prepared for release to his family for burial in strict compliance with the World Health Organisation’s (WHO) guidelines.

He said: “The Centre has recorded the death of a patient who tested positive for coronavirus.
“The deceased, a Force man presented in the General Outpatients department about three days ago. He later died the same day.

“The result of his test returned this morning positive. His body is being prepared for release to his family for burial in strict compliance with World Health Organisations guidelines.

“All staff who came in contact with the deceased are currently on self-isolation.”

New Telegraph reports that the hospital recently recorded some positive COVID-19 cases, including the death of a pregnant woman who died from coronavirus complications while awaiting the result of her test.

In a statement he issued on Saturday night, Orisajo declared that no doctor at the hospital has tested positive for coronavirus contrary to some media reports.

He said only a nurse and an administrative staff of the hospital, as well as three patients, tested positive for COVID-19.

The statement partly reads: “Two patients who tested positive for coronavirus early this week at the Federal Medical Centre, Abeokuta were this evening transferred to the Ogun State isolation facility at Ikenne. Yesterday, the Centre confirmed the two cases in a statement.

“Further to those, the Centre hereby confirmed the case of another three patients whose test results just returned positive.

“Two of them are staff of this Centre, a Nurse and an Administrative staff which brings the total number to five.

“So far, no doctor in the Centre has tested positive for coronavirus contrary to some media reports.

“The Medical Director, Prof Adewale Musa-Olomu, at a meeting with the representatives of the Unions in the Centre today (Saturday) re-assured them of their personal safety and protection.

“He also had the same message for the users of the Centre whom he said had nothing to be afraid of as the Management was fully alive to its responsibility.”
