Published

on

When one hears about alumnus organisation of any formal institute of learning, what comes to mind is a coterie of people who converge every now and then at a rendezvous to socialise, chit-chat, eat and relief memories of old times at their alma maters.

Of course, there is nothing wrong in engaging in these aforementioned activities, but in most cases these activities are not a means to an end of humanitarian endeavours, they are not where cogent and impacting issues are discussed while the moments are savoured. The people only come together for merriment sake without a tinge of deliberation as to what to do to advance the cause of humanity and also give back to the abode of learning that nurtured them to people of repute.

However, there are handful of old students association whose modus operandi is fixated on bettering the lives of people and contributing to vital socioeconomic issues that are germane to the cause of humanity and development of the society.

One of such alumnus associations is Molusi Colllege Ijebu Igbo 69/73 Set. Molusi College Old Students Association.

MOCOSA 69/73 set is a quintessential old students association that should be emulated by other associations who are genuinely interested in making the world a better place.

MOCOSA 69/73 is not just another old students association whose acts of kindheartedness are confined to the precinct of their alma mater. The goals and objectives of the association transcends ethnic, political, social and economic barriers.

The benevolent and altruistic disposition of the association will give that of conventional humanitarian organisations a run for their money.

The association is peopled by folks who have gone ahead in life to become an important persons in the society, by individuals committed to the common cause that brings them together. The goal is to leave a delible mark on the sands of time, even at a personal sacrifice and discomfiture. To this extent, those who occupy rare and privileged positions have not let their high standings disrupt the group goals, but have learnt to accommodate all others driven by the same welfarist and humanist passions.

Truly, the spirit of altruism and selflessness has been the hallmark of this association.

Despite the COVID-19 pandemic which has effected every imaginable aspect of humans lives, the association has remained unwavering in its drive to advance the cause of humanity.

Since physical convergence of people at this particular point in time is frown upon, it shall not be heard that people of intellectual acumen and reputable members of the society are the ones flouting government order banning public gathering.

In light of this, the association has resorted to meeting virtually via the popular video app called Zoom.

“We meet every three month to Deliberate on  humanitarian issues but we can’t meet physically now due to the pandemic” social secretary of MOCOSA 69/73, Otunba TJ Abass, said “be that as it may, we will be having our first virtual meeting today via zoom and we are hoping that people will turn up”

He said the topic of discourse will be on how the association can continue its humanitarian activities amid the pandemic as they don’t think the pandemic should inhibit their altruistic endeavour.

“We are looking at how we can continue our humanitarian services, especially when we you look at the fact that this is the period people will need such gesture more as most are financially and economically decapitated from the effects of the pandemic” he said

He added that every member of the association is covered by insurance, a thing of rarity amongst associations of such standing.

The Chairman of the association, Sheik Hussein Abayomi, a geologist, also relished the prospect of meeting the members as this is the first meeting, though virtual, the association will be having since his emergence as president.

But we are raising the bar, we want to perform better than the last executive” he said

“It is an association of old boys and girls of the school who have now become men and women, we have done a lot to improve the situation of the school, a couple of years ago we rehabilitated some blocks of classes and also dug a borehole in the school and also donated some furniture” he said
