COVID-19: Caution Your Passengers, Ensure They Comply With Government Directives, Tarzan Boat Warns Operators

Mr. Balogun Tarzan, President of The Association of Tourists Boat Operators and Water Transporters of Nigeria (ATBOWATON) has instructed all the boat operators across the country to oblige with government directive by wearing a face mask and adhering to other precautionary measures to avoid further spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Addressing further, he urged his members to adhere to the social distancing rule and regular hands washing.

Tarzan said that, It company has begun daily sterilization of boats, life jackets, enforces 80% capacity.

Balogun said that due to the outbreak of COVID-19, all boat operators on Nigerian waterways were advised to convey only 15 passengers in a boat with capacity for 20 without increasing fares.

He advised all members to adhere to the preventive measures stated by the Lagos State Government and the Federal Ministry of Health to remain safe.

“I am using this opportunity to call on all our members to obey the safety rules stated by WHO and the Federal Ministry of Health, likewise adhere to the social distancing rule.

“For a boat of 20 persons capacity, 15 should be conveyed, and they must ensure there are materials at every jetty with which passengers can wash their hands and get sanitized.

“Some operators in Lagos have complied with the rule of carrying 15 passengers in a 20 persons capacity boat and their fares remain the same,” he said.

“I advise and plead with every boat operator to adhere to the safety rules, and I pray we overcome this pandemic soon,” he said.

Tarzan appealed to the government to address the issue of multiple taxation, noting that, It is affecting their business.

He commended the efforts of marine police and other security agencies for ensuring adequate security on the waterways.

Balogun also wants the government to build filling stations closed to the waterways for boat operators to have easy access to the fuelling of their boats.
