REVEALED: Why Bandits Fail To Accept FG’s Negotiations
Negotiations with bandits to end the bloodletting and kidnapping in the North-West geopolitical zone ends in failure for three major reasons, Senator Shehu Sani has said.
He made the disclosure in a tweet on Monday.
Recall that governors in the region granted amnesty to cattle rustlers and armed bandits in August 2019.
However, Governor of Katsina State, Aminu Bello Masari disclosed in June 2020 that there would be no more negotiations with the bandits as they have failed to keep up with agreements on ending hostilities in the state.

But Sani, who represented Kaduna Central in the 8th Senate, said that the negotiations failed first of all because the bandits are in cluster groups and lack central leadership.
He identified the second reason as greed, noting that the bandits were always after more money.
Thirdly, he said, the bandit groups are transnational in nature and so do not feel compelled to obey the laws of any nation.
“Three reasons why negotiations with bandits led to more attacks; Firstly,Bandits are cluster groups without a central leadership;
Their motivation is money & can only be sustained by money;
They are transnational gangs,operates without respect or recognition for any laws or Govt,” Sani wrote
